How to Get Food From an Indian Potato Plant
- 1). Learn well how to identify an Indian potato plant. Pink-white stems (the "fleshy" variety), with broad green leaves at the top surrounding small, usually white or yellow flowers, mark all species of Claytonia. These small plants usually grow to be no more than 5 or 6 inches in height.
- 2). Locate and uproot the Indian potato plant, which grows plentifully in forested areas in the United States and Canada. Rinse all of the dirt off of the stem and roots with fresh water.
- 3). Harvest the Indian potato plant's tubers. These are the Indian "potatoes." Rinse the tubers again after you've detached them from the rest of the plant.
- 4). Throw the tubers in a pot of boiling water, then eat them as you would regular potatoes.
