How to Find Out What People Are Talking About

104 219
    • 1). Go to your Internet browser and navigate to well-known various news outlets. CNN (cnn.com), MSNBC (msnbc.com) and Reuters (reuters.com) are excellent outlets that update their sites with the latest news 24 hours a day. Many news aggregate-sites such as HuffingtonPost.com will collect stories from all over the Internet.

    • 2). Search for specialty news sites according to your interests. If you wish to keep up with entertainment news, Perez Hilton's blog (perezhilton.com) and AintItCoolNews.com always have the latest gossip, often before major news outlets. For technology and science, Slashdot.com and ArsTechnica.com are excellent resources.

    • 3). Bookmark the sites you've chosen to follow in your Internet browser. This will allow you to browse them quickly each day. Some websites offer what are known as RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds. An RSS feed is a subscription to a webpage that will cause your browser to continually check your subscriptions throughout the day, alerting you when one of your favorite sites has been updated. RSS feeds can speed up your daily routine by limiting the amount of time you spend idly browsing.

    • 4). Buy an Internet-capable smartphone. A smartphone will allow you to check news on the go and during your downtime, such as while riding public transportation. Many Internet-capable phones also offer applications, commonly known as apps, made specifically for news outlets like CNN, The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.

    • 5). Create a Twitter account. Created in 2005, the social networking site Twitter, a mini-blog website open to public use, has exploded into a worldwide phenomenon. It has even gained acceptance as a legitimate news source, often quoted or directly read on televised news stations. Twitter has become the new "eyewitness" outlet, allowing people to report on major incidents live from their Internet-capable phones. Many large corporations and major news outlets also maintain official Twitter accounts, and the "hashtag" labeling system allows you to quickly and easily search for information on major occurrences worldwide.
