    • Birds of paradise average between four to five feet in height. The thick leaves of the flower grow to approximately 18-inches in length.

    Geography

    • The tropical nature of these ornamental flowers is well suited for growing them in greenhouses in gardening zones located in the warmer regions. In colder zones, plant flowers in pots or containers and move them indoors during freezing weather.

    Considerations

    • Because of their size, birds of paradise can cause damage to smaller blooms when placed together in an arrangement. Cut flowers will last approximately two weeks before degrading.

    • The flower known as the birds of paradise has this name because the shape of the flower petals has an uncanny resemblance to that of a bird's head and beak.
