Why You Need to Visit Barcelona

103 28
Struggling to find somewhere to go to on holiday? Barcelona hit me for six when I first went there just over 5 years ago.
I had never realised how beautiful or how many things to see there were.
No matter how fussy you are, Barcelona will have something that ticks your boxes.
If you are a trainee artist or fan, A visit to the Museu Picasso must be on your list.
After this, you can keep the Picasso theme by heading to one of the great painter's favourite haunts, Els Quatre Gats in the Gothic Quarter.
Follow in the legendary artist's footsteps by heading over to the Gothic Quarter and getting a coffee from Els Quatre Gats, A cafe visited by Picasso on a regular basis.
To top off your art day, the Fundacio Joan Miro is another famous artist museum with a fantastic collection of the surrealist's paintings.
For those who revel in architecture, a must see is the Sagrada Familia, a fantastic gothic cathedral created by Gaudi.
It is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the whole of Spain and it's easy to see why.
It is considered a crime to visit Barcelona without visiting Las Ramblas, it really is a tourist's paradise.
One of my favourite things to do is to pick up a snack from a kiosk or a rather expensive sandwich shop, pick up a drink and watch some of the street entertainers ply their trade.
It is quite simply the epitome of Barcelona.
And the beautiful city's connection with food doesn't end there.
It is irrelevant where you travel within Barcelona, on every corner there is a street vendor or Tapas bar.
Regardless of whether you want to spend a small amount of Euros or a stackload, walk past a few restaurants to check how busy they are, as some are better than others.
Camp Nou, home to Barcelona football club is just a short tram ride away and is a great sporting experience whether there is a game on or not.
Fitting just under one hundred thousand people, the atmosphere is always electric.
Almost as enjoyable is the same numbers of fans rushing to get the last metro of the night.
London Underground has nothing on this! Football games aside, you will find the metro the perfect way to get around.
As well as being a great shelter if the weather should change, it normally gets you to destinations faster than by taxi as the traffic in the centre of Barca is so bad.
Barcelona can be quite spread out, and so the underground connects these places perfectly.
Barcelona has a small number of areas to get away from the hectic Catalan life too.
Barceloneta is such a place to either relax or take part in some water based sports.
You may find that when you return home, you have acquired a very Barca attitude.
You get so used to the laid back way of life, beautiful weather and people, and their openness to everything, that it's a place that you miss as soon as you leave.
It's because you come back feeling so much like you belong in Barcelona, that you want to return quickly as it feels like home.
Barcelona feels like a home from home for many people and it's why they keep flocking back.
