New York City is the largest city in the United States and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. With its many iconic buildings and monuments, incredible shopping and unparalleled entertainment options, New York is someplace that everyone really should try to visit at least once in their lives. No matter what kind of interests you may have or things you might like to do, New York is certain to offer something that will suit your fancy.

If you are lucky enough to go on a trip to New York, you will definitely have a long list of things to see and do on your itinerary. Some of the most common and popular are basically household names. One obvious pick is the Statue of Liberty, which is considered to be on the main and most important symbols of the American ideals of justice and freedom. Many millions of immigrants, first arriving in the United States, saw the Statue of Liberty from their boats. Any trip to New York simply must include a stop at this wonderful monument.

Another very renowned and interesting place to visit in New York is Ellis Island. This is located in the same vicinity as the Statue of Liberty, and it is where a huge number of America's many immigrants had to pass through before entering the country. It is a museum today, and it is a great place to visit to learn more about the history of the United States and of New York. A short ferry trip is all that is required to get over to this incredible place.

The Empire State Building is another must see attraction while visiting New York. This is the tallest building in the city, and you can take in phenomenal views from its wonderful observation deck. People are very fond of taking pictures from up here, since it affords such a fabulous view of New York and Manhattan. If you're visiting New York for the first time, one of your first stops absolutely must be at the Empire State Building.

Located smack dab in the middle of Manhattan in New York City is Central Park. This is a superb place to go to get away from some of the noise and hustle and bustle of this incredibly busy and crowded city. Central Park has some great ice skating opportunities in the winter, and there are a lot of great paths for bicycling during the warmer weather months. In fact, you can rent a bike from many places in Central Park to take out for a couple of hours. It is a really great way to see New York from a whole other angle.

There are certain pockets of New York that are also very famous. One of these is Little Italy. In this section of New York, you can sample some of the finest Italian cuisine available outside of Italy. New York's Chinatown area is also a great place, and offers some of the best Chinese food anywhere. Trying out one of these spots is a great way to enhance your visit to New York.
