The Pros and Cons of Insurance Comparison Tools

103 20
No one likes to pay more than they have to for anything.
We all want to know that we are getting real value for money.
The problem is that with most forms of insurance there can be so many variables that simply obtaining a quotation can take a considerable length of time.
Before any quotation is given you will be asked to give standard features such as name and post code.
Combine this basic information with a full break down of claims history and offences and you will discover that the quotation process will take several minutes.
If like a growing number of the public you now see the internet as a viable medium you may be tempted to simply trawl the comparison websites.
So is this a good way to compare insurance quotations and levels of cover? Perhaps as long as you follow a few simple and easy to follow guidelines.
Wherever possible apply for an extra email address to use specifically just for your quotations.
Most of the systems will have automated email marketing attached.
This means that if you have entered your personal email address you may find that you are bombarded with unwanted emails.
The beauty of having a disposable email address which you can drop after using it, means that you will never have your own personal email address spammed.
Be very careful which contact telephone number you enter as your main point of contact.
This is because in most cases as soon as you have entered the number you may find that you have given the website permission to use, pass on to third parties, sell and in some cases contact you about your insurance needs.
Comparison websites are an ideal way to gauge the market and some offer exceptional value for money.
However please remember just how the organisation makes its money as in most cases this is by adding an amount on top of the premium you pay.
In the UK there is a growing number of large and multi national companies who are now rebelling against the comparison business model and refusing to be included.
In fact some are so proud that they now use this as a positive message to the media on television and press advertisements.
So to summarise be very careful who and what information you enter on any comparison website and do not base any buying decision solely on their quotations as they may not have access to certain key suppliers.
