How to Recover a Phone System From Disaster

    • 1). Remove the phone from the water source as quickly as possible. Do not try to shake the water out, as this may have the opposite effect and send the water deeper into the phone.

    • 2). Remove the battery and any other peripherals from the phone. If your phone has a SIM card, remove it. If the phone is plugged in, unplug it.

    • 3). If the phone was submerged in salt water, gently rinse the phone under fresh water. When salt water dries, it leaves crystals that can damage your phone.

    • 4). Towel dry the phone as gently as you can. Do not jam the towel into crevices. Gently rotate the phone to try to pour water out of any cracks it might have seeped into.

    • 5). Submerge your phone in a bowl or plastic bag full of desiccant, like the silica packets that come with shoes, or chalk. Use dry rice if stronger desiccants are not immediately available. Timeliness is more important than the material used.

    • 6). Gently rotate the phone to a new position every hour or so for as long as possible throughout the day, to let water fall out of the phone and be absorbed by the desiccant. Leave the phone submerged in the desiccant overnight.

    • 7). Wait as long as possible before reattaching your battery and SIM card and attempting to turn on your phone.

    • 8). If it doesn't turn on, remove the battery, plug it in, and try again. If this works, you most likely need a new battery. If it still doesn't work, take the phone to an authorized dealer.
