• RxList explains that Amox-Clav has been prescribed to treat infections that are suspected to be caused by bacteria. Using Amox-Clav in this manner may reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria.

• Examples of bacterial infections Amox-Clav may be prescribed to treat or prevent include lower respiratory tract infections, ear infections, sinusitis and urinary tract infections.
  
  

Dosage

• Most tablets of Amox-Clav come in 250mg or 500mg tablets. Combining two 250mg tablets to create a 500mg dose is not advised by RxList as the contents would not be the same. In severe infections an 850mg tablet may be prescribed.

Warning

• Penicillin allergies can result in death from anaphylactic reactions. Amoxicillin is from the penicillin family and should be avoided. Any signs of allergy should be reported to a medical professional immediately and the medication discontinued.
