Tips on Straightening Hair

104 12
    • 1). Use a round brush when blow drying your hair. The round shape will allow you to concentrate the blow dryer on each portion of the strands as you move down the hair shafts. A round brush will also lend to a smoother look than if you used a standard flat brush.

    • 2). Point the hair dryer's nozzle downward when you blow dry your hair. This will smooth the hair follicle so hair appears straighter and shinier.

    • 3). Blast your hair with cool air once you have finished drying it. Do so by setting your hair dryer to its coolest setting and giving your hair a once-over with it. Hair will look fresher and healthier as a result of the cool air.

    • 4). Invest in a high-quality straightening iron, preferably one with ceramic plates. Any heat-related styling will have a drying effect on the hair, though professional ceramic irons are slightly gentler on your locks. You'll also experience fewer fly-away hairs when you use a professional iron.

    • 5). Spray a leave-in conditioner on your damp hair before you begin the straightening process. This will help to protect hair against the damaging effects of the blow dryer and straightening iron.

    • 6). Wash your hair with a straightening shampoo. These shampoos usually contain silicone ingredients that help to weigh hair down somewhat, thereby preventing curling. If you use regularly, you'll notice hair is more controlled and responds to straightening better.

    • 7). Smooth hair with a silicone-based shine product. Since heat is most commonly used to straighten hair, it can tend to have a dulling effect on strands. Apply a shine serum or lotion to the top layer of your hair in order to boost its appearance.

    • 8). Treat your hair to a deep conditioner once a week. Leave the conditioner on your hair for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing it out. This will give it plenty of time to fully penetrate your locks.
