About This Convention

ECCC is the largest convention in the Northwest. It has quickly become a favorite amongst creators and fans for the intimate setting, solid comics focus, and good attendance. The convention has continued to grow and evolve, moving from the Seahawks Qwest stadium to their current location in the Washington State Convention Center.

History

The Emerald City Comic Con started in 2003 by current con-organizer Jim Demonakos. Jim had recently opened a comic book store called The Comic Stop and had attended comic book conventions in other areas.

Seeing what went on there and noticing no large comic book convention presence in the Northwest, Jim decided to start his own convention.
The first con had many comic guests, including Erik Larsen, John Cassaday, Greg Rucka, and Jim Mahfood, to name a few. Later shows saw the likes of Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Wagner, Adam Kubert, JG Jones, Stuart Immonen, Frank Cho, Mark Waid…the list goes on and on. Each year the convention grew in attendance, both in the amount of creators and fans.

Many creators cite the Emerald City Comic Con as one of the last good “comic” conventions around, as the focus is very much squared on comic books and not other pop culture items. The convention continues to grow and adds new creators to its lineup every year and more attendees as well. The future of the con looks bright and organizer Demonakos hopes to strengthen the two day event, looking to add more content such as workshops and events.
