    • 1). Remove the drawers from the piece of furniture and place them in a well-ventilated area where they can air out for two to three days.

    • 2). Sand the inside of each drawer that contains the odor with 220-grit sandpaper. Vacuum up the dust with a hose attachment on a vacuum.

    • 3). Pour a cup of white vinegar into a small container. Dip a cloth into the vinegar to saturate it. Squeeze the cloth lightly so it's not dripping.

    • 4). Wipe down the surfaces on the inside of each drawer with the vinegar-soaked cloth. The surfaces should be wet. Re-wet the cloth with vinegar as needed. Allow the drawers to dry in a well-ventilated area for 24 hours.

    • 5). Stuff newspapers into the drawers to help absorb remaining odors. Leave the newspapers in the drawers for two to three days.

    • 6). Measure and pour 4 tbsp. of baking soda into the toe area of a clean sock or stocking. Make one baking soda-filled sock or stocking for each drawer. Place the socks or stockings in a back corner of each drawer and replace the drawers in the piece of furniture. Replace the socks every other month or until you no longer notice odors coming from the drawers.
