How to Install an XP Dial Up Network Adapter
- 1). Open the "Control Panel" in Windows XP, and then double-click on "Network and Internet Connections." Click on "Create a new connection," and then click "Next." Select "Connect to the Internet," and then click on "Next." Select "Set up my connection manually" and click "Next."
- 2). In the New Connection Wizard, select "Connect using a dial-up modem," and click on "Next." If you intend to use the modem that is installed in your computer system, select the checkbox that has your computer modem, such as "Modem--Conexant V.90 modem." (However, if you intend to use a smartphone as your dial-up modem, however, select "Modem--Standard Modem.") Click on "Next."
- 3). In the ISP field, type a name for the network connection. For example, if your Internet service provider is "Rocket Internet Service," you can use a name such as "Rocket Internet," "Rocket ISP" or "Rocket Dialup." Next, enter the access number for the ISP.
Please note, if using a smartphone as a dial-up Internet connection, the access number will be shorter than a standard phone number. For example, the phone number may be "*99#" rather than "1-800-555-1234." Check with your wireless service provider for the proper number.
Click on "Next." - 4). Type the Username and Password you have selected to access the ISP dial-up server. If using a smartphone as a dial-up connection, type the username and password provided by your wireless provider, click "Next" and then "Finish." This will open the "Connect" window.
- 5). If using a smartphone as a dial-up connection, click on "Properties" in the "Connect" window. Verify that "Modem-Standard Modem" is selected, and click "Configure." In the "Modem Configuration" window, clear all checkboxes and select "OK." Click "OK" in the properties window to close the Dial-Up Networking wizard.
