Risk Reduction Made Easy
Here are 3 great sources of risk reduction you can supply in your electronic press kit (you do have one ready right?): #1 References - Anyone you have done anything for can give you a good reference.
A reference can be as simple as a name and phone number or e-mail of someone who can vouch for you.
Having someone else talk about the time you helped them out is very powerful.
People who have never worked with you before will take comfort in other's opinions and thoughts on your good character.
#2 Letters of Recommendation - This is a bit more than just a reference, it is a letter, ideally on company letterhead or stationary stating that you were of great service to this person or company and anyone wanting what you have to offer should book you.
These are extremely helpful in removing risk associated with new hires.
The fact that someone else took time out of their busy day to actually write on a paper how much you were of value to them is worth it's weight in gold.
#3 Testimonials - These are the most powerful, and I bet you are wondering aren't these all the same? No they are not! A testimonial is usually given when someone's life has been drastically changed because of what you have to offer.
If your clowning has inspired someone at one of your shows to go out and start living a better life, and they can not thank you enough, that is a testimonial! These can be on paper, audio, or my favorite and most powerful; video.
Testimonials can seal the deal when clients are looking for return on investment.
If you had a video of someone say how you personally touched their life and now they are out being more productive or earning more or doing more charity a client will absolutely want you to hire you so you can do that for their group.
Having someone else sing your praise is so very important.
It takes a little bit of effort to capture some really good testimonials and or letters of recommendation.
Here is a format that I personally use when asking one of my past clients for some kind words.
Hello _____, I wanted to thank you again for the opportunity to entertain at the (Name of Event).
If you would be so kind, may I ask for a written testimonial? Letters like these (submitted via e-mail or handwritten on company letterhead) are incredibly valuable in my continued promotional efforts.
