104 9

    Ocean, Beach or Tropical Theme

    • 1). Use the color coral in an ocean, beach or tropical-themed room, either as the main color or as an accent. Combine with sea-foam green, tan, sand, beige and sky blue to create a soft look or use turquoise, yellow, orange and red for a sunny look.

    • 2). Fill the room with wicker furniture. Look for cushions, pillows and throws with tropical floral prints.

    • 3). Accent with lighthouse decor, shells, bamboo shades and tropical silk flowers. Add palms, ferns and greenery.

    • 4). Paint a coral reef mural on a wall or set up a live fish tank to complete the ocean feel.

    Cottage Theme

    • 1). Create a cottage theme around the color coral. Combine coral-colored flowers, fruits and vegetables with shades of blue, yellow, orange, white, pink and red.

    • 2). Paint the walls coral and trim in white.

    • 3). Decorate with chintz fabrics and wicker and shabby chic furniture.

    • 4). Accent with floral pillows, doilies, quilts, decorative mirrors, birdhouses and greenery. Add white shutters to windows.

    • 5). Paint a garden mural or trompe l'oeil on one wall, or stencil a floral pattern along the ceiling.

    Southwest Theme

    • 1). Look toward the Southwest for inspiration. Combine the muted shades of the Painted Desert, such as coral, pink yellow, blue, sand, tan and cream for a soft look, or use the vibrant, rich tones of the Southwest, such as deep coral, turquoise, orange, terracotta and chili pepper red. Mix and match for a more dramatic look.

    • 2). Bring in pine or rustic furniture.

    • 3). Accessorize with pottery, baskets, Mexican tile, ranch items and Southwest rugs and throws.

    • 4). Add cacti and other succulents for greenery.

    Add Drama

    • 1). Add drama to a coral room by pairing it with black. Paint the room a deep coral and highlight it by adding black furniture, vases and lamps.

    • 2). Accent with red, teal, blue, green, yellow and orange pillows, throws and artwork.

    • 3). Incorporate one or two pieces of natural or stained wood in the room to give it warmth.

    • 4). Highlight and brighten the colored accessories by painting the trim or ceiling white.

    Modernize a Room

    • 1). Modernize a coral room by adding black or dark brown accents and furniture. Black and brown ground a brightly colored room, while adding depth, drama and sophistication.

    • 2). Accent with colorful contemporary paintings, prints, vases, sculptures and other artwork.

    • 3). Keep the room simple and uncluttered to keep with the contemporary theme.

    • 4). For a little less drama, paint three of the walls and the surrounding trim white or beige.

    A Teen Girl's Room

    • 1). Decorate a teen girl's room with coral, apricot, melon, salmon, peach and multiple shades of pink. Combining coral related colors, colors that are close-by on the color wheel, will give the room a bright, exciting, funky and feminine feel.

    • 2). Add touches of orange, hot pink and red for more pizazz.

    • 3). Finish the look with a lava lamp and other decorative lighting.

    Earthy and Natural

    • 1). Combine the color coral with shades of brown, green and yellow for a soft earthy look. Paint the ceiling a sky blue.

    • 2). Bring in casual, rustic wood furniture.

    • 3). Accent with nature prints, baskets, pottery and a multitude of greenery.

    • 4). Create tabletops with pinecones, nuts, twigs and dried flowers.

    • 5). Buy an indoor fountain.
