Free Painting is a fun and expressive activity for girls. Though many art classes for kids emphasize structure, it can be a nice break to use one loose idea and see what you can come up with. Free painting is also an opportunity to reward girls for taking a risk and using their creativity. Teachers, parents and babysitters can utilize guided free painted activities to help little girls discover their inner artist, articulate feelings or learn something new. - Play several pieces of music and give your girls a separate sheet of paper to paint on for each song. Encourage your students or children to paint whatever the music makes her feel. Discuss the paintings with the group and see if pieces brought up the same ideas and emotions. Girls of all ages will appreciate the evoked feelings.
- Give girls a few days to work on a self-portrait. As a prelude, study several types of artists to illustrate how portraits can be abstract and imaginative. Encourage girls to portray themselves for who they hope to be and present their work to the group. Promote discussion about the elements of her personality that the group can see from her self-portrait. For example, it can display a particular hobby, emotion or dream.
- Have girls bring in an object they would like to add artistic expression to. The options are limitless, but some easy and affordable ideas are a rock, a small wooden box or a tote bag. Instruct girls to think about something meaningful to base the item on. For instance, a keepsake box might have an anniversary or quote on it and a rock may have a picture connected to nature.
- Art is all about freedom, so give girls a big space to work with. Ideally, cover their entire area with butcher paper to avoid messes. Turn out the lights and let them freely paint. Girls will focus on movement and how much pressure to apply rather than details.
