Unplug the garage door opener, or turn off the circuit breaker that supplies power. - 2). Locate the garage door opener and find the shuttle, a small metal bracket where the garage door hardware connects to the opener's chain drive. The shuttle is rigidly attached by screws or bolts to the top of the garage door and meshes into the drive chain.
- 3). Locate the release handle on the shuttle. The release handle is usually a brightly colored plastic handle attached to the shuttle with a short cord.
- 4). Release the shuttle by pulling the release handle, typically down and away from the opener motor. Consult your owner's manual for more details. There may be a snapping sound as the shuttle disconnects. The door is now free from the opener, and may be manually lowered or raised.
