How to Restore Windows Desktop Settings
- 1). Right click anywhere on your desktop background. In the menu that appears, click "Properties." This will open the Display Properties window where you can change and apply desktop settings. You can access this window using an alternative path by opening "Control Panel" from the Start Menu. Click the "Appearance and Themes" category, and then "Display."
- 2). Click the tab at the top of the Display Properties labeled "Desktop." Click the "Customize Desktop" button at the bottom left of the window.
- 3). Click "Restore Default" near the center right of the window in the Desktop Items window that appears. All of the standard icons on your desktop will revert back to the default icons that the computer came with.
- 4). Set your computer's theme back to the original theme by opening the Display Properties window as before. In the "Themes" tab, select the default theme from the drop menu. Click "Apply" at the bottom of the window and then "OK."
