How to Convert SATA Power to IDE
- 1). Power down your computer and unplug its cables. Turn off the external power switch on your computer's power supply. Place the computer on a cleared work surface like a table or desk.
- 2). Remove the computer's casing to access its internal components. Remove the screws securing the case to the computer's frame---the case screws are located at the back of the computer, along the sides. Once the case screws are all removed, slide the computer's case off.
- 3). Locate a free SATA cable running from your computer's power supply. Slide the SATA end of your SATA-to-IDE power connector into the head of the SATA power supply.
- 4). Plug the IDE end of your SATA-to-IDE power connector into the 4-pin Molex power port on the back of your IDE device (e.g., hard drive, CD/DVD-ROM drive).
- 5). Connect an IDE data cable to the back of your IDE device. If your motherboard is like your power supply and doesn't support an IDE device, connect a SATA-to-IDE converter to your drive (see Resources below).
