Exercise Success - One Step at a Time

103 16
Any one of us can achieve success.
Sure, we have to work at it and maybe make some changes in our lifestyle that may not always be pleasant or comfortable at first, but in the end they're all worth it.
The success I'm talking about doesn't have anything to do with wealth or social status or even career orientated success; it has to do with living a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle.
The only way this can be accomplished is through consistency with a nutrition and exercise program.
Many people just can't seem to put it together and start a program of this nature.
Something always gets in the way or distracts us.
Maybe it's the fear of failure or setting goals that might be too hard to achieve.
What does it take to motivate a person to begin exercising or eating right? First, nutrition and exercise must be looked at as something that will be carried out for a lifetime.
It isn't a "quick-fix".
Too often unachievable goals are set which only lead to discouragement and eventually an end to the exercise and nutrition program.
These types of goals include losing 50 pounds in eight weeks or putting on 20 pounds of muscle in one month.
It just doesn't happen.
It isn't practical to expect your body to make quick changes that took years to create.
It's unfortunate, but we live in a "now" society.
That is, we want everything to happen right away, we can't wait.
Physical changes and good health take time to mature.
We shouldn't be in a rush to achieve a particular change; we have a lifetime to work on it.
If you think about exercise in light of this point you will be better equipped to accept changes that our a little more gradual.
Each year our bodies undergo a complete transformation on a cellular level.
That is, each of our 75 trillion cells will be gone and new ones will take their place creating a new body.
If you make it a priority to treat your body right through regular exercise and proper nutrition all these new cells will be stronger and healthier.
Our lives are in constant change and the choices you make each day about your health will have an impact well into the future.
Instead of setting goals that are difficult to carry out, consider this idea to help you on the road to success.
You are actually in control of re-creating yourself.
Set short-term goals that can be achieved each day.
For example, make it a goal just to exercise on a given day.
Sometimes this is the hardest thing to do.
Another goal can be to increase the amount of weight you lift or minutes spent exercising each day.
These goals are easily measurable and can be attained daily.
Although achieving success with these short-term goals may seem immaterial, they go a long way in improving your attitude and overall success.
When setting goals for your nutritional habits consider the same ideas.
Look at what you eat day to day.
Make the changes in your nutritional habits gradually over time.
Abrupt changes generally result in frustration and a change back to your old ways.
Nutrition is the hardest area for people to change.
You need to make the change something you can live with for a lifetime.
We all want to be successful; however, we don't always want to make the changes necessary to achieve this success.
When it comes to physical fitness and health we have our whole life to work at it.
Remember success is a journey not a destination.
