How to Use a Torpedo Heater to Thaw Pipes
- 1). Locate the area of your mobile home where the pipes are frozen and determine if there is an electrical outlet nearby. If no outlet is available, you will need to use an extension cord.
- 2). Place the torpedo heater as close to the frozen pipes as you can.
- 3). Open the fuel cap on the heater and add the kerosene, if you are using a kerosene heater. Fill the reservoir and then replace the cap.
- 4). Run the extension cord from the electrical outlet to the location of the heater. Plug the power cord for the heater into the end of the extension cord.
- 5). Adjust the thermostat for the heater, if the heater comes equipped with one, to the lowest setting. Turn on the heater to let it start blowing hot air on the pipes.
- 6). Observe the heater while it is heating the pipe for a half hour to an hour. Turn the heater off and then turn on the water to see if it now flows through the pipe. If the pipes are still frozen, turn the heater back on and wait an additional half hour.
