Retaining Independence via a Stair Lift
Naturally then, by the time I had grown up and left home, I never really had to worry about my mum. I knew she could more than look after herself. But after my father passed away, my mother lost some of her old vitality. She started to lose her stamina and pretty soon I noticed that she was starting to have trouble climbing the staircase. It was then that I started doing some research into home stairlifts.
I expected to find that everything was very expensive, but when I went online I was really amazed by what I found. The prices were far more reasonable than I had imagined such a useful and complicated bit of kit would cost. But even so, mum doesn't have an awful lot of money, and this in combination with what I had was still not quite enough for a brand new stair lift. Luckily for us, I found a brilliantly priced range of reconditioned and second hand home stairlifts.
And what's more, we got a curved stair lift for my mum's spiral staircase, which is just brilliant. I was convinced that we wouldn't find one that perfect, especially not at that price. Nowadays my mum is back to her independent old self. Before I would always have to make sure she didn't over exert herself. I would always have to make sure that before I left her place at the end of each visit, I moved anything from upstairs to downstairs that needed moving. I love home stairlifts; now I can leave knowing that if she's downstairs and she wants her favourite slippers, she'll have no problem popping upstairs.
