This is an everyday example of a hypnotic state.
It was pretty relaxing, wasn't it? Self hypnosis is sort of like meditation.
They can both be used to alleviate stress and anxiety and to achieve deeper relaxation.
Just like meditation, self hypnosis allows the stress hormones to ease up and helps to get your mind off of anything unpleasant.
Self hypnosis will not put you into some sort of a trance where you are floating around aimlessly in another dimension of your with no way out.
It's merely a convenient stress relieving exercise that can be performed just about anywhere or anytime.
Here's How It Works The first thing you have to do is pinpoint whatever it was that got you turned upside down and inside out.
You really need to understand exactly what is eating at you so you will get the best results possible.
Next, find yourself a place that is quiet with a comfortable spot to sit or lie down.
You might want to lie down on your bed or even on the floor, if you're at home.
Getting comfortable is essential, but you don't have to lie flat on your dining room table.
A nice comfy chair will do fine or sit on the floor yoga style if that is what works for you.
Dim the lights or turn them off all together if possible.
Close your eyes, take deep breaths, relax and try to clear your mind.
It's not easy at times as outside distractions try to needle their way into your mind.
Maybe your phone rings or a loud car passes by.
Don't give up.
If it helps, you can imagine all of your stress, anxiety and fear leaving your body and rolling down your arms, hands and fingers onto the floor or like gentle rain water dripping off of you.
Repeat positive thoughts and reject negative ones.
Keep this going until you feel at ease and the anxiety is gone.
Keep your eyes closed and stay calm and relaxed.
Once you feel that you have returned to normal, open your eyes and give yourself a minute or two before getting up.
Anxiety is truly a force to be reckoned with, but with the proper advice and support it can be managed while you get your life back.
