How to Care for Skin After Using a Tanning Bed
- 1). Before going to the tanning bed, take a shower and clean your skin well with the loofa and mild body wash, such as Johnson's Body Wash. A mild body wash works best because it's gentle on your skin and does not have any properties which would leave a film on your skin. Scrub gently with the loofa to get rid of any dead skin cells. Apply a tanning lotion made for use in a tanning bed. Many tanning salons and other retail outlets carry a wide selection of lotions made for use in tanning beds. If you burn easily, make sure that you pick a tanning lotion with a small amount of sun block and stay in the tanning bed for only the recommended amount of time.
- 2). Allow your tan to set for a minimum of 4 hours before you take a shower or add any lotion to your. To get the maximum benefit from your tanning bed session, allow the tanning lotion to remain untouched on your skin for several hours after your tanning session. Washing the lotion off of your skin or taking a shower immediately after tanning can result in a lighter, uneven tan.
- 3). Take a shower a minimum of 4 hours after your tanning bed session. While in the shower, use the sugar scrub evenly over the area where you have tanned. Using a sugar scrub rather than a salt scrub will give your skin more moisture and will give your skin a nice glow while removing any dry skin which will keep your skin from drying out or peeling. Do not rub the scrub in to any areas that became sunburned during your session. If you have any sunburned areas, clean them gently with the mild body wash to remove the tanning lotion.
- 4). Cover your skin with deep moisturizing lotion immediately after leaving the shower. Use the aloe vera gel on any areas that are sensitive or sunburned first, and then apply the lotion. The aloe vera will assist the sensitive areas of your skin in healing at a faster rate. Applying deep moisturizing lotion keeps your skin healthy and extends the life of your tan, allowing you to go longer in between tanning bed sessions.
