Next, embed the fiberglass mesh in the mud and remove any air pockets. Let the compound to dry out a little, before applying the second coat of drywall mud. Let it harden overnight and sand the patch with great care, making sure there is a smooth transition between the wall and the the repaired area.
On the other hand, if the damaged are is large, you need to cut it out with a keyhole saw, making it square or rectangle. Install a strip of 1x2 lumber on teh back of the wall and secure it with screws. Cut out a small patch of drywall and install it into place. Cover the edges with paper and apply several coats of mud. Sand te surface thoroughly, apply the primer and paint the patch with teh appropriate color.
