How to Do Colorful Frosting
- 1). Use white icing for light colors. You can use store-bought or homemade icing, but make sure it is not tinted yellow, as this can make creating certain colors difficult.
- 2). Separate your frosting into different bowls so you can create the different colors.
- 3). Dip a toothpick into the color you want, then swirl it around in the frosting.
- 4). Blend the icing with a spatula and continue adding color until you get the color that you want. Add more for darker colors and less for lighter colors.
- 5). Use chocolate icing when creating dark colors such as brown and black. Otherwise, you will have to use a significant amount of food coloring and this can ruin the taste of your frosting.
- 6). Mix colors together to create different shades. For example, if you want a yellow-green frosting, start with a little yellow coloring and then slowly add green until it reaches the shade you want.
