Grin and Colbert It:
The 58th Annual Emmy Awards are now history, nearly a week old, and many ?Just Happy To Be Nominateds? are no doubt looking forward to next year?s show. That includes stalwart hosts like David Letterman, Conan O?Brien, and Bill Maher ? none strangers to the award acceptance speech (though Maher has yet to collect an Emmy; he does have two Cable ACE Awards).
Also in that mix is freshman host Stephen Colbert. His The Colbert Reportlost to repeat winner The Daily Show with Jon Stewart ? the show from which Colbert spun-off. It wasn?t a surprise to the world at large. Though he is considered one of the most influential people on the planet (just ask Time magazine), he?s still a bit of a polemic on the political stage. And while the same can be said for Jon Stewart. Well, the truth? Jon?s just a bit more ? sophisticated.
If you?re a Colbert fan, don?t fret. Stephen will certainly get his due. Though he may have a tough time of it next year. With the midterm elections coming up in November, The Daily Show?s ongoing ?Indecision? election coverage will attract Emmy voters? attention. But there is much comedy to mine if Colbert winds up the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Program?s version of Susan Lucci.
If that?s the case, we can rest assured that Stephen and Jon will continue with wonderful Emmy introductions like the one they performed Sunday night.
These Awards are ?Relly? Cool
Hey, it?s not the best headline in the world, but I get points for style, right?
Thought I?d counter the Emmy talk with a bit of Live with Regis and Kelly talk. Not too long ago, I posted a blog that mentioned that the Regis and Kelly would be announcing the winners of the show?s annual Relly Awards beginning this week.
I was wrong.
The show is only announcing the nominees for the Rellies. And you can vote for those nominees online, if you act fast!
p]The Rellies, by the way, toast the best ? and wackiest ? moments on the popular morning program. Nominees for the coveted top award ? Best Regis ? include Tom Hanks, Jennifer Garner, Anderson Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Ted McGinley, Kelly Ripa and her husband, Mark Conseulos. Regis is included in the mix, though he?s lost two years in a row.
Vieira Sorry for Sharing Her Point of ?The View?:
Meredith Vieira shared her point of view of The View this week ? and things didn?t come out quite the way she meant.
In a recent interview, and in response to a question about whether she?s been keeping up with the morning talk show since leaving as co-host, Vieira said, "I needed to think ahead. But I have to admit, the day after Star made her announcement, I watched. I feel very sad for everything that's happened and for everybody involved.
"I'm proud of the work we did there, but it's not a good time in the history of that show. It's hard to watch. It sort of became a joke."
It seems that everyone latched on to that last little bit, and started announcing that Vieira, who joins The Today Show as co-anchor on September 13, considered The View ?a joke.?
But a sharp reader ? and everyone in the Yada Nation is a sharp reader ? can clearly see that Vieira was talking about how the show was being treated and not what it had become.
Carson?s Childhood Home in Good Hands
Adams County, Iowa, native Edward Chappell has bought the childhood home of another Adams County, Iowa, native: Johnny Carson.
Chappell, almost 80, was born just months apart from the legendary late night host of The Tonight Show. Chappell plans to restore the 1,200-square-foot home to its 1920s appearance and then turn it over to a nonprofit society.
Chairman of the Johnny Carson Birthplace Society, Chappell hopes the home will be open to the public.
