Poker has a number of different variants.
On of the more popular one is called the Five Card Draw.
In this article the set up and the rules of Five Card Draw will be explained.
The set up for this game is similar to that of any other poker game.
The minimum number of players required is two and the maximum can go up to 5 or even 7.
For the purpose of this article the game will contain 4 players.
To start up each player must 'Buy In'.
This is to say that each player must exchange a certain amount of money for the equivalent chips.
The next thing you need is a single deck of cards with the standard 52 cards.
These cards must be shuffled properly.
This concludes the set up requirement.
Before the game can start one player must be decided upon as the dealer.
The dealer changes with every deal usually moving in a clockwise direction so that each player is to be the dealer at a point during the entire round.
The dealer must deal five cards to each player, one card at a time.
The cards must be dealt from the top of the deck and not randomly or from the bottom.
Once the cards are dealt the rest of the deck must be kept aside by the dealer.
The player on the left of the dealer begins the game.
At this stage the player must look at his or her cards and place a minimum bet that has been already decided upon.
The game now moves in a clockwise direction where the next player can either 'Call' which is to match the previous player's bet or raise the bet amount.
If the cards are not good at all every player has the option to 'Fold' or withdraw from the game.
After each player has made their bet the second phase begins.
This is called the draw phase.
In this phase each player has the option to either stay with the card he has or exchange a few of them to get better cards.
The number of cards discarded is the number of cards that will be dealt to each player by the dealer.
You can discard 1, 2, 3, 4 or all your cards depending on the hand that you have been previously dealt.
Once the draw phase is over the last phase begins.
In this card the final bets are made.
At every stage of the game you are allowed to fold but in doing so you will lose the chips you have already bet.
Once all the bets have been placed the time comes to show your cards.
Each player's cards are to be kept face up on the table in the clear view of everyone.
The best hand wins the game and the player with the best hand gets to keep the all the chips that have been collected in the 'Pot' during the game.
If two hands win then the sum is shared evenly.
And the game starts again.
