In addition to enforcing all Ohio state driving statutes, Montpelier, Ohio, sets its own standards for driving behavior. Montpelier allows drivers to dispose of minor traffic offenses by paying the citation without going to court; more serious offenses require court appearances and possible jail time or loss of license. In addition, Montpelier requires all drivers to carry proof of insurance and show it to officers during a traffic stop. - Bryan Municipal Court in Montpelier allows drivers to pay certain traffic tickets without appearing in court. To qualify, a citation must not be for a felony or indictable offense, a DUI, a suspended license violation or a repeat offender violation. Repeat offenders are drivers who have received three moving violations within 12 months. In addition, offenders must have either presented proof of insurance to the citing officer or be able to present proof of insurance to the Department of Motor Vehicles prior to paying the citation. Citations may be paid online, in person or by mail.
