Places to Look for Real Estate Properties in Bonaire
There are three different regions that Bonaire is typically divided into, where you can narrow your search down to once you get started in the real estate search. Here are the three main locations and their major features, which can be used to get a feeling for what these individual parts of the island are like and if you might want to find a home there!
The first region is called Kralendijk. Kralendijk is Bonaire's capital city and boasts a small but cozy population of about 3,000 people. The urban center is located near to the airport (about five minutes) and has a modern main street running through the center of it. Downtown Kralendijk has a few supermarkets where you can find any staples you need for your home and refrigerator in addition to cute boutiques with clothes and other necessities.
The waterfront boardwalk is quickly accessible from downtown Kralendijk and provides a great place to have a coffee, enjoy a warm day and get some exercise all at the same time. While the downtown area can be busy it maintains a calm and quiet vibe that permeates through the levels of society in Bonaire.
For a bit of Bonaire history Fort Oranje also has a presence in downtown Kralendijk. With restored old cannons the fort continues to guard the island! Cruise ships can often be seen steaming in and out of the harbor and fresh produce is stocked in the local markets and grocery stores.
North Bonaire is an outdoorsman's dream with deserts, forests, and coastlines as far as your eyes can see. This is definitely a more rural part of Bonaire and is full of incredible sights like Devil's Mouth and Iguana Head. Inscriptions from the natives of Bonaire can still be seen in regions of North Bonaire as well!
Finally, South Bonaire is also more rural than the Kralendijk area but also provides the right about of peace and quiet while still being accessible from the city. Wildlife abounds in South Bonaire including long haired goats, wild donkeys, lizards and rare Caribbean birds. Additionally this area is known for incredible flora and fauna.
