The flu season is here! This year we have a more virulent type of virus that we have to contend with; so we need to take some extreme measures to avoid becoming a victim.
We need to become creative and on guard at all times so I would like to offer twelve (12) survival tactics that you can take to survive the H1N1 flu epidemic.
1.
Move to the mountains; find a cave and become a hermit.
I know that this is impractical; however, we do need to avoid crowds as much as possible.
The flu virus is a tricky little devil.
It is transmitted by air, through body contact or from body fluids from sneezes, coughing or fluid from the mouth (such as kissing).
The virus can be contracted from door handles, handles of shopping carts or even by handling money that was used by somebody that is contaminated with the flu bug.
You should have some sanitizing hand wipes or a bottle of hand sanitizer that you can use periodically during the day.
Avoid rubbing your eyes or your face when you are out in public and have touched any foreign object.
2.
Maintain a healthy regimen and get a lot of rest.
It is important to keep your immune system running in high gear so you need to get enough sleep each night to refresh your body and your immune system.
3.
Drink lots of water.
Water is essential for our normal everyday life.
It becomes even more important during a flu epidemic.
There are studies that show when the respiratory system is moist; it is able pass the germs and virus through the system more rapidly.
4.
Allow ventilation into the house.
Fresh air and ventilation are important so you should crack a window or two to allow the fresh air in because the ventilation will help push any virus or germs outside.
5.
Lower the temperature at home.
Warmer temperatures are virus friendly and we do not want to make the environment comfortable for virus or germs so keep the temperature cool.
6.
Get a humidifier for the home or at least for the family room and the bedrooms.
You want your respiratory system to stay moist so it is able to trap the germs and virus before it can do any harm.
The trapped virus is trapped in mucous and is eliminated by blowing your nose or sneezing.
7.
Eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
It is important to stay healthy so you want to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.
They are a natural source for Vitamin C and other nutrients that are essential for the body to help the immune system fight off germs and virus.
8.
You should take a multivitamin for health reasons.
Vitamins are essential for good health; unfortunately, we have a tendency to cut ourselves short so pop a vitamin pill or two.
It cannot do any harm and it will definitely help.
9.
Exercise for better health.
Exercise should be made a part of your everyday routine and it is much more important when you want your immune system to keep running at the maximum; however, do not over exercise.
If you do; you might weaken your immune system so do your workouts in moderation.
Do not over tax your body! 10.
Become a clean freak.
You need to wash your hands more often and especially before eating or when you come back to your home after being out among the masses.
As mentioned before; the virus can be picked up almost anywhere so you need to become almost fanatical about cleanliness.
11.
Become stand offish.
There are many people that say we should avoid hand shaking, hugging and kissing during the flu season.
This may be impractical in some situations but you need to be mindful of how the virus is transmitted so take the proper precautions.
12.
Avoid eating out as much as possible.
You need to be vigilant about the way food handlers deliver your food.
Make sure the dishes, cups and eating utensils are clean.
Some of the tactics that I have mentioned makes me sound a bit paranoid but the point that I am trying to make is to be vigilant.
The H1N1 flu virus is something we want to avoid.
To avoid it completely may be too much to hope for but by taking a few precautions and keeping your body healthy will do a lot to get you thought the flu epidemic without becoming a statistic.
