Types of Kenya Safari Vacations
There are many different types of Kenya safari holidays that you can go on depending on your budget and requests. To give you a much better idea of some of the options available to you before you create and book your very own Kenya safari itinerary, here is a rundown on some of the types of safaris you can take and accommodations you can stay in.
Walking Safari
A walking safari is the closest to nature you will get to on a safari. You will usually be escorted by a guide, who will also serve as your educator whilst exploring the landscape. Walking safaris are only usually permitted in parks with low predator counts.
Balloon Safari
Taking a balloon safari can be a quite expensive, but definitely a more than worthwhile experience. It will allow you to see the park from great heights, as you soar through the clouds slowly.
Horseback Safari
Riding on horseback is a great way to see the wildlife and scenery of a park if that is the type of experience you are interested in. I would suggest to anyone wishing to take this type of safari to do some horse riding experience in their country of residence, before turning up to do a horseback safari in Kenya.
Vehicle Safari
The most common type of safari is the vehicle safari. This will consist of driving around in a specially converted safari vehicle with a pop down roof which will give you greater viewing and photography advantages of the wildlife you will see.
The types of accommodation you stay at can really depend on how close you want to be to nature, and what kind of budget you want to spend, below are some examples of places you can stay.
Camping Accommodation
Staying in a tent in the middle of the bush does really take some guts, but also the adrenaline rush you can get from being so close to nature and the noises you will hear, such as the breathing of wild animals strolling past your tent at night can be more than enough of an experience to write home about!
Tented Camp Accommodation
Many people confused tented camps with actual camping, this could be no further from the truth. A tented camp is a much more luxurious option, which usually features a bar and restaurant centrepiece which then has rooms which usually have a wooden or concrete base with a canvas tented roof.
Lodge Accommodation
Lodges will have chalet style rooms which are usually quite luxurious and most have ensuite bathroom, including a hot water shower.
