If you've seen the movie "300" you sure know what six pack abs look like. The guys on the movie had washboard abs and were in top shape.

Hollywood trainers seem to have the power to transform any individual into the physique needed for any particular role. However, do you know the change needed to get ripped abs is up to the individual because by themselves trainers are not able to do anything. They cannot will anyone to do anything if that person is unwilling to do it themselves.

I am sure after the movie many men were inspired to get chiseled abs. They bought the latest exercise machine, obtained an expensive gym membership and bought all the supplements and pills and looked forward to getting the coveted six pack abs.

However, at the end of their workouts when they lifted their shirts they saw the same stomach that they started with. Many of them may have lost some weight but they never saw the washboard abs that they were hoping for looking back at them in the mirror.

Unless you are genetically blessed with abs then this article is not for you. If you are not, then you must want to ask a burning question so I will let you ask.

So what does it take to get ripped abs? Glad you asked. It takes a good eating lifestyle and a proper consistent workout plan. They both are a combination of hard and smart work.

Here are a two practical pointers with respect to your diet that once implemented will start the ball rolling. Eat your foods as close to it's natural state as possible. This simply means more fruits and veggies. Take a walk through your flea market or stay on the outside lanes of the grocery store and pick up fruits and veggies. Always have enough to last you at least a week.

Cut back on your bread, rice, oatmeal and other complex carbs and use more vegetables. They have less calories in them and will help cut the fat which will help your six pack abs to become more visible. Look for real fruit juices and avoid the ones with a lot of sugar. If possible make your own juice with the fruits that you buy (very natural!).

You should eat more of your potatoes, rice or oatmeal closer to your workouts. They provide you with more energy when you exercise.

Equally important in getting chiseled abs like the men on 300 is your workout routine. You can run for 40 minutes on a thread-mill like everyone else or you can ramp things up by doing various exercises and ending things off with interval sprints, fast or fast jogging on the thread-mill.

Resistance training with weights will help you build muscle which burns fat and intense cardio will also help you burn fat. Your metabolism will continue burning fat even after you workout. It's a powerful combination. Be sure to consistently exercise during the week.
A workout geared towards building muscle and burning overall body fat to help give you six pack abs can look like this. Do each superset 3 times with a manageable weight.

Here is the workout 12 bench press then 12 squats, rest for 1 minute, incline bench press then 12 lunges (each leg), 12 dips then 12 deadlifts, rest 1 minute, 12 tricep pull downs then 12 one legged lunges (each leg). Now hit the thread-mill and start walking. Walk at a medium pace for 30 seconds and speed up your walk for 1 minute. Now you can start to jog for 1 minute and start sprinting for 30 seconds. Repeat 3 to 5 times.

This is just a sample workout you can do burn overall body fat so that your abs become visible. Once you have good eating habits and a consistent workout plan give it some time before you get the abs you have always dreamed about.
