5 Things to Check Before You Book a Horse Riding Camp This Summer

103 11
Horse riding camps are an exciting place for young people to spend their summers.
Before choosing one, there are five important things that need to be looked at before the final decision is made.
1.
It is important that appropriate lessons and information is given during the time of the camp.
Specific curriculum should be in place based on the ability of the rider.
Campers who have more advanced skills should not have to go through basic Horse Riding 101 classes.
Staff that are teaching should be CHA (Certified Horseman's Association) certified or be overseen by someone on the staff who has this training.
This will ensure that proper techniques and methods are used during instruction.
2.
The staff members that interact with the campers need to be trustworthy and upstanding.
The camp where they work needs to have a thorough process in place for screening and hiring staff.
This includes interviews, background checks, reference checks, and pre employment drug screening.
If all of these things are not done, the quality of the people working with the campers could be less than desirable.
3.
Along these same lines, there should be a thorough pre-camp training program that is in place before there are ever any campers on site.
Staff members should be well trained in their specific area and go over items such as first aid, emergency procedures and working with different learning styles.
4.
Horse riding camps should come with a good reputation.
By searching online, there should be reviews from parents and campers about the program.
The camp itself should be willing to provide references that can be personally contacted.
If they are unwilling to provide this, there may be a problem or concern that they are trying to hide.
5.
Finally, the price of the camp should be scrutinized.
Make certain that the cost is all inclusive and if it is not, be certain to know what the final bill will be.
Many times, there are additional fees for extra trail rides, purchases at the camp store, group photos and more.
Whether it is for a basic horse riding 101 camp or an advanced racing program, it is important that several things be looked a before choosing one.
With some research, a great horse riding camp can be chosen.
