They have become a necessity becausethey help to make tasks easier to complete, saving you plenty of time.
Even though power tools are cool, you must remember to use them with caution in order to avoid accidental injuries.
Power tool safety is something you should take into consideration before you turn one on.
Here are a few tips to keep in mind so that you can use your tools confidently.
Wearing the proper safety equipment is at the top of my list.
One of the simplest pieces of equipment you should have are safety googles.
Your eyes are very important, so protect them at all costs.
Never take them off while you are working or in the work area.
Take the time and invest in a good pair of glasses.
Certain power tools can produce a lot of noise, especially if you are working in an enclosed area, so protect your hearing.
Wear earplugs or hearing protectors, yes that is what they are called.
If you've been drinking and you decide you need to do some work you're asking for trouble.
Under no circumstances should you use power tools if you've had too much to drink.
Save the alcohol until after you've finished the job.
If you are on medication the makes you drowsy or disoriented it's clear that you should not be using any tools.
Follow the instructions properly on any medication before you take them.
Examine tools carefully and consistently.
If you find and breaks or nicks in the chord repair them as soon as possible.
In fact do not use damaged tools at all.
Always know the right tools for the job you are about to start.
Be sure to read the instructions carefully for the tools that you will need.
This helps avoid injury to you or damage to the materials.
Pay attention to what you are doing.
Yes I know distractions happen but taking your eyes away from a tool can lead to disaster.
Never do that, try to finish the task at hand first then tend to the distraction.
Keep the work area clean.
Do not let dust and debris accumulate.
Clutter can cause accidents.
Clean your work area porperly after you have finished for the day.
Store flammable liquids in the proper containers and keep them away from your tools.
When not in use, be sure to pull plugs out of the socket and store your tools in their proper places.
Never carry a power tool by the cords.
When in use, keep fingers away from the on/off switch.
Proper lighting should be used at all times.
If the lights are too dim add extra lights so that you can see what you are doing.
Wear the correct clothing.
Wear clothing that will cover your entire body.
Do not wear loose fitting clothes, if you are wearing a bracelet take it off.
Never put your hands near a moving blade, wait until it has completely stopped.
Your work area should be off limits to children and pets.
Lock your work area up tight when you are away.
Do not let inexperienced users handle tools without strict supervision.
Having the proper safety procedures in place helps everyone stay safe while you are working.
Use these tips every time as they can keep, not only you, but others safe as well.
