New York Anime Festival 2007 Del Rey Manga and Marvel Comics
After announcing their collaboration on new manga versions of The X-Men and Wolverine, the Marvel Comics and Del Rey Manga creative team smile for the press.
One of the most talked-about panels at the New York Anime Festival was Sunday's Del Rey Manga and Marvel Comics panel. After a joke reveal of an "Iron Man vs. Gundam" series, the real project was unveiled: a shojo manga version of The X-Men and a shonen manga version of Wolverine.
The creative team for the shojo X-Men two-book series will be the husband-wife writing team of Raina Telgemeier (The Babysitters' Club) and Dave Roman (Jax Epoch), with Anzu (The Reformed) slated to do the artwork.
While the X-Men project will be geared toward female teen readers, the Wolverine project is aimed toward male teens who love shonen manga stories. Antony Johnston (Wasteland) was named as the scribe for this two-volume mini-series, but Del Rey Manga Associate Publisher Dallas Middaugh mentioned that while it was in the works, the artist for this project hasn't been inked in yet.
