How to Recover From Magic Show Mistakes

103 93
Everyone makes mistakes.
Magicians are no different.
Even the greatest magicians are human and what appears to be effortless to the average person, can take a great deal of skill and risk for a magician.
The problem with this for a magician is that the trick may be revealed! Yikes! Mistakes are bound to happen, but following some key points may save your blunder and make it seem like no big deal.
Firstly, decide just how terrible the mistake is, and then quickly decide one of the following three things:
  1. Do a different trick right away with the same prop.
  2. Ignore the mistake and maybe your audience will too.
    Just keep going.
  3. Stop the trick and make a joke.
Then put the trick away and move on.
For example if you accidentally drop a prop on the floor, laugh and say, "Now it's a floor show!" Chances are your audience will laugh too.
Don't worry if the mistake happened in the middle of the trick and you think some spectators saw the secret.
Chances are they were not paying that close of attention to be able to catch it.
Remember, what you see is not what the audience sees.
If your blunder happens at the end of a trick say something like "well there's nothing like a well-rehearsed magic trick.
And that was nothing like a well-rehearsed magic trick".
Then move on and do your next trick.
All magicians make mistakes.
Think of it this way.
The more experienced you are at making mistakes and handling them gracefully, the more confidence you will have and the better able you will be at thinking quickly when it does happen.
