How to Hang Pepper Plants
- 1). Put on rubber gloves, safety goggles and a dust mask before you begin working with the peppers, especially spicy varieties, which contain a powerful component called capsaicin. It can cause unprotected skin, eyes and nasal passages to have a burning sensation.
- 2). Cut each pepper plant off at its base with a sharp knife. Hold the stems of each individual plant together and bind them with a rubber band. The band will hold the plant together in a narrow shape that is easier to move and store.
- 3). Hang up a clothesline rope in a well-ventilated, cool, dark area such as a garage or basement. Hang the line at a height that you can easily reach.
- 4). Hang the pepper plants upside down on the clothesline. You can simply separate the stems gently and hang them so half of the plant is on each side of the line. Or you can you use clothespins to attach the pepper plants upside down to the line. Space each plant so that air can circulate around it. Let the peppers dry all winter long.
