Unusual Places to Go in Geneva

103 306
Geneva is such a big city that you may find it difficult to decide where to go first once you have arrived in your Geneva airport taxi.
While many people head straight for the main sights such as the Jet d'Eau, others seek out some more unusual but equally stunning places to go.
Once you have taken a Geneva airport taxi into the city and you are ready to explore, try these more unusual destinations for size.
Quai du Mont Blanc When you get out of your Geneva airport taxi you may feel the desire to stretch your legs a little.
There is no better way to do this than to head out to the Quai du Mont Blanc, where you will get a superb view over the lake.
The area is beautifully lit at night and you can see a large number of yachts moored close by.
It is a superb place to dream and to take in the atmosphere the city has to offer.
If you visit on a clear day you can also see Mont Blanc, which is where this area's name came from.
Promenade des Bastions If you are still in need of a long stroll after exploring the Quai du Mont Blanc you can opt to try the Promenade des Bastions as well.
This area is larger than life - not least because it has several giant sized chess sets you can play with.
Even if you are not skilled at chess it is well worth a go simply for the photo opportunities! You can also walk along the tree lined promenade itself, which is quite a striking sight at any time of the year.
Watch out for the Reformation Wall as well - it is around 100 metres in length so it is not hard to spot.
It has huge statues of various important figures on it, towering above anyone who comes to see them.
Carouge If you want to see a side of the city that is more laid back and natural, look out for Carouge.
This is a short distance south but it is worth making the journey to immerse yourself in its ambience and laid back style.
Carouge is known for its squares, which are sometimes lined with trees and many welcoming places to sit down in and watch the world go by.
You will also undoubtedly enjoy the markets here, consisting of a number of stalls each selling different types of goods; fresh fruit and vegetables are widely available.
You will find plenty of nice bistros to stop in for a hot beverage and snack too, further adding to the warm and welcoming feeling.
Wherever you decide to go once you step out from your Geneva airport taxi, you can see that it is possible to avoid all the more traditional sights and locations and see a side of the city you may otherwise miss.
Once you start uncovering the hidden side of the city you won't want to stop.
