How to Replace a Chevrolet Key Switch
- 1). Locate the two screws that secure the cover of the steering column. These will be on the underside of the column.
- 2). Remove the screws with a screwdriver and then pull the cover off of the steering column.
- 3). Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the second or "Run" position. This is the position you reach before you start the vehicle.
- 4). Locate the access hole on the underside of the key switch and insert the punch pin into the hole.
- 5). Push on the punch pin and the pull out the key switch. Pull on the ignition key and the key switch will slide out of the steering column.
- 6). Insert the new key switch into the steering column. Press on the new switch to lock it into the steering column.
- 7). Set the steering column cover back in place and secure it with the screws to complete the project.
