Graphic Design Scholarships for High School Seniors

    Competitions

    • Art and graphic design competitions give high school seniors a chance to show off their talents and earn scholarship money in the process. The Art Institutes sponsor the annual Poster Design Contest, where high schools seniors can enter a poster design based on that year's theme. Students enter through each of the 45 Art Institutes schools around the country; local winners move onto the national level competition, where winners receive partial to full tuition to study graphic design at an Art Institutes campus.

    Private Endowments and Funds

    • High school seniors looking for graphic design scholarships may also turn to private endowments and funds, such as the Hispanic Education Endowment Fund. The HEEF funds the Arts Scholarship, open to high school seniors and community college students wishing to study art or graphic design at a four-year college or university. Applicants for the $1,000 to $2,000 scholarship must be a Latino high school graduate of an Orange County school and demonstrate financial need.

      The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Foundation, a private fund, offers the CBC Spouses Visual Arts scholarship worth $3,000. Ten scholarships are awarded each year to high school seniors pursing a degree and career in the visual arts or graphic design.

    Professional Associations

    • Graphic design and other art-related professional associations are another source of graphic design scholarships for high school seniors. AIGA, the Professional Association for Design, along with the Worldstudio Foundation, gives away several Worldstudio AIGA Scholarships each year worth. The groups also award several honorable mention scholarships. Applicants must be pursuing an art-related major, including graphic design, and must have a 2.0 grade point average.

      The Printing and Publishing Council of New England awards nearly $100,000 in scholarship money each year to high school seniors and current college students pursuing a career in the graphic arts.

    Colleges and Universities

    • Several colleges and universities with graphic design programs also fund scholarships for students. For example, Specs Howard School of Media Art in Michigan offers three scholarships hat offer $1,000 up to full tuition to study graphic design there. At the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, incoming students studying graphic design at the school qualify for a number of scholarships based on academics, artistic talent and financial need. The scholarships range from $2,000 to $10,000 in tuition assistance.
