    Make a Meal

    • Though it might seem to be a cliché, a homemade meal eaten by candlelight is always romantic. Choose a simple recipe, such as Chicken Alfredo made using store-bought sauce. Add bread and a hearty salad to make a complete meal, and set the table using elegant dishes. Decorate with lots of candles and flowers and sprinkle the table with cutout hearts. If you can have the meal ready as a surprise when your loved one arrives, it can make the meal all the more special. Finish the evening with a decadent dessert like fudge that is easy to make, but tastes delicious.

    Make a Slideshow

    • Using your computer, favorite music and photographs, along with inexpensive slideshow software, you can create a modern version of the classic mixed tape. Select songs that are meaningful to you and your significant other, and then add photographs from all of the events you've shared. Some programs will also allow you to add text slides to your show. Use these to add details about your favorite memories, quotes about love, or a personal love poem. Pop your creation into the DVD player, and watch it as you snuggle close to the recipient.

    Write a Love Letter

    • Everyone loves to get letters, but in the age of email, handwritten notes have fallen by the wayside. Make a vow to renew the art of writing in your home. Decorate a box with colorful scrapbook or wrapping paper. Tell your Valentine that this box can serve as his personal mailbox, and you promise to fill it as often as you can with love letters. As a special treat, include the first of many letters inside the box before you present it to him.

    Make a Memory Book

    • If the two of you have a long history, try chronicling the past Valentine's Days you have shared. Collect pictures from previous holidays and write down as much as you can remember about each prior Valentine's Day. If you have tangible artifacts from your past, such as dried flowers, old cards or movie ticket stubs, include those in your memory book. Organize all of the memories into a photo album, leaving space for the future. Not only will your date be impressed by your memory, but your gift will also bring with it the promise of many more happy times to come.
