How to Shave Side Burns
- 1). Splash your face with warm water and then lather your face with shaving cream.
- 2). Shave your face with your razor, or electric razor. Do not shave all the way up to your sideburns. Reserve 1 inch or 2 inches below your side burns, saving this area for last.
- 3). Shape the bottom of one side burn with your straight-edge razor. A straight-edge razor gives you a cleaner and sharper cut than a regular razor. Once you have the right side burn length, shave the sides of the side burn with your regular razor to clean up the hairs around it. As you shave, keep the razor straight or angle the razor to curve according to the shape you want for your side burns. For instance, if you want mutton chops, allowing the razor to curve up as you shave the bottom portion of the side burn is necessary to achieve the slight upward turn that the mutton chops have.
- 4). Review your first side burn in the mirror. Wipe away the shaving cream residue to get a clean picture of what the side burn looks like.
- 5). Match your second side burn to the first one. Use your finger to keep track of the length. Hold one finger up to the bottom of the side burn that you just shaved. Look straight in the mirror and place your other finger at the equal height on your other side burn, where the bottom should be. You can even make a tiny mark on your face with a pen in the place that you should shave. Keep the side burns as even as possible, so that one is not shorter than the other. If you took off a lot of length from your first side burn, take the length up on your second side burn slowly, so that you do not accidentally go too far.
- 6). Keep checking your side burns in the mirror as you go, to make sure you are on track for them to look similar.
