    Ice Cream and Sorbet

    • There are several ice cream options for non-dairy eaters. Soy ice cream comes in a variety of flavors. Rice milk ice cream is another option. Coconut milk ice cream is harder to find, but worth the effort. The texture is more similar to traditional ice cream, but it contains no dairy. Many fruit-based sorbets are also dairy free. If you can't find premade non-dairy ice cream, you can make your own with soy, rice, almond or coconut milk. Simply replace the milk or cream in your favorite ice cream recipe with a non-dairy alternative.

    Premade Frozen Treats

    • Popsicles are the standard non-dairy frozen treat. Available in a wide variety of flavors, shapes and sizes, many popsicles contain no milk or other dairy products. As an added bonus, popsicles often have a very low calorie count, making them a good dessert option for dieters. Frozen fruit bars are another option. You'll also find rice or soy ice cream bars or sandwiches in grocery stores.

    Shaved Ice

    • Shaved ice is a simple, refreshing treat. Snow cones are the usual way you'll find shaved ice in stores or restaurants. If you aren't interested in buying shaved ice, you can make your own by shaving the ice with an ice shaver. Add the syrup of your choice over the shaved ice. Flavored syrups in a wide variety of flavors are available in many grocery stores. You can also make your own simple syrup by boiling fruit juice and sugar until it is reduced by half.

    Simple Homemade Frozen Desserts

    • Frozen fruit is a simple, healthy dessert option. Cut up your favorite fruits, like strawberries, pineapple, mango or bananas. Freeze the fruit chunks and serve them on their own, or over other frozen desserts like non-dairy ice cream or sorbet. You can also make your own frozen juice pops with a popsicle mold and bottled or freshly squeezed juice or use ice cube trays or molds for interesting shapes.
