Are Traditional Weddings Still Popular?

The institution of marriage is the oldest of human institutions and has evolved through the ages and how.
With increasing divorce rates, civil partnerships and high rates of cohabitation, one would be tempted to conclude that traditional marriages are a thing of the past.
But even to this day, wedding vows are exchanged in most avant garde weddings.
So I think it is fair to say that traditional weddings are still popular as most weddings include the following traditional elements.
Walking down the aisle Most modern day marriages are still rooted in tradition and there are quite a few singular aspects that have remained intact.
For instance, a father or senior family member still takes pride in walking his daughter down the aisle and giving away her hand to her soon to be husband waiting at the other end.
Exchanging rings Wedding rings solemnise and epitomise the union of two souls.
The exchanging of wedding rings attests the fact that the couple will remain in wedlock till death.
This is another practise that has been handed down from generation to generation and continues to this day.
The white wedding dress Contrary to popular belief, white was not the preferred colour of wedding dresses in the past.
The traditional colour of choice to represent the purity of the bride had been blue.
Eventually, white replaced blue as the favoured colour because it was the most expensive fabric available.
In most weddings today the traditional white or ivory wedding gown is still worn by brides.
The throwing of rice grains Rice grains have always been associated with fertility and productiveness.
Different regions around the world have used rice grains, wheat or other cereals for solemnising religious or festive occasions including marriages since ancient times.
Even today, when a newly married couple emerges from the church after exchanging wedding vows, rice, peas or wheat grains are thrown at the happy couple.
And the wedding photographer is there to capture those priceless moments.
Tossing of the bouquet The bride tossing the bunch of flowers or bouquet over her shoulder is yet another custom that is steeped in tradition.
So, all those would be brides who're looking forward to tying the wedding knot should not give this practise a miss if they want to impart a traditional touch to their nuptial.
It is commonly believed that if the bride tosses the bouquet behind her, the first single woman who catches it would be the next bride in waiting! There are many other traditional customs or practises that are still followed like the slicing of wedding cakes and the wedding banquet.
No matter how modernised a wedding becomes, it'll not be consummated if some traditional elements are missing like the wedding vows.
