First, check into Cobra, Cobra is a federal law that gives workers the right to extend their health insurance for a limited time.
The time period is usually 18 months.
If you opt for Cobra you must be very careful what you decide on.
You must keep in mind that you will be making the entire payment on your own now and the rate could go up.
Before you sign up for Cobra you may want to check and see what insurance will cost you in the competitive open market.
You may be surprised with what you find.
Second, if you a married person and have always kept your own insurance you may want to consider to sign on to your spouses plan.
They may offer some type of reduced rates for a spouse.
Check on the rules and regulations of the policy to ensure you will be covered immediately.
Third, you may want to check if any organization you belong to offers insurance plans.
The type of groups that tend to have health groups are alumni associations, professional organizations or unions.
Some of these plans can be very good and affordable.
Fourth, you may want check out public plans, most of these cover only children, but could be a life saver if your child becomes ill or has an accident.
Fifth, you may want to look into HMO'S, they are a good way to have medical coverage at a cheaper cost.
By keeping all of the patients in a group with specific in plan doctors and hospitals rates are cheaper.
Lastly, you may want to check the rates for private insurance.
Although they do tend to be expensive, they do offer many options.
Your rate can change greatly by the coverage you choose.
If you decide on a higher deductible your monthly payment can be much lower.
