How to Reglaze Your Bathroom Tile
- 1). Dull the surface of the tile with a vibrating-pad sander and medium sandpaper. Move the sander slowly, getting the surface as clean and flat as possible. You won't be able to completely de-gloss the tile. Just dull the shine as much as you can.
- 2). Mix one cup of TSP in one gallon of hot water. Scrub down the tiles with the solution, using a nylon scrub brush. Rinse thoroughly. Let it dry overnight.
- 3). Apply a thin layer of polyurethane over the tiles, using a paintbrush. Brush the polyurethane on all in the same direction. Do just the tile surface, not the grout between the tiles. Let the polyurethane dry for four to six hours.
- 4). Buff off the shine with very fine sandpaper, sanding it by hand in light, short strokes, just enough so the next coat will stick. Wipe off the dust.
- 5). Repeat the polyurethane application and sanding a second time.
- 6). Apply a third coat of polyurethane, and don't sand it, but let it cure for 48 hours.
