    About JavaScript

    • JavaScript is an object-oriented programming language widely used both offline and online. JavaScript is most widely recognized because of its ability to make websites and Web pages interactive without requiring the user to download any special software. All modern Web browsers support websites that contain JavaScript code. Although the names are similar, Java and JavaScript are two different programming languages. JavaScript has many positive applications that improve websites, but malicious software developers can also use JavaScript to also install spyware and adware on your computer.

    Script Blocking Add-ons

    • Firefox supports downloading and installing custom third-party extensions, known as add-ons. Based on the design, extensions can perform different functions to make browsing more convenient or add certain features not offered by default in Firefox. If you've downloaded and installed a script blocking add-on to protect your computer from malicious scripts, Firefox can't run JavaScript code from certain websites. Consider disabling the script blocking add-on if you receive a "JavaScript Disabled" error.

    Enabling JavaScript in Firefox

    • You will receive a JavaScript Disabled error if you attempt to visit a website that supports JavaScript with the feature disabled in Firefox. You can enable it by clicking "Firefox," "Options," the "Content" tab and placing a check mark next to "Enable JavaScript."

    Advanced JavaScript Settings

    • In addition to simply enabling JavaScript in Firefox, you can setup advanced JavaScript settings using the Firefox Options menu. Advanced options include giving JavaScript permission to move or resize existing windows, raise or lower windows, disable or replace context menus, hide the status bar in Firefox or change the Firefox status bar text. Consider disabling all of these advanced JavaScript settings to prevent malicious scripts from altering your browser, if you accidentally access a site with one of these scripts installed.
