How to Remove the Starter on a 2007 Toyota 4-Cylinder with a 5 Speed Transmission
- 1). Pull the vehicle up on car ramps and keep the transmission in gear. Lock the parking brake to prevent the possibility of rolling or sliding. Then pop the hood.
- 2). Climb out of the vehicle and lift the hood. Remove the negative terminal from the battery, using a crescent wrench. This will stop the flow of electricity between the starter and the battery, preventing the possibility of shock.
- 3). Climb under the vehicle and locate the starter near the transmission housing. The starter is a cylindrical, aluminum-cased part with a connected wire leading to the battery.
- 4). Remove the electrical connection on the side of the starter, using a 12mm socket wrench.
- 5). Remove the four mounting bolts around the edge of the starter, still using a 12mm socket.
- 6). Slide the starter out of the shaft housing.
