How to Work Functions on a Calculator
- 1). Turning on the calculator requires pressing the appropriate key. It may be labeled “AC”, “On”, “C” or the key may be labeled “ On C”.
- 2). Solar calculators do not normally have an "Off" button, yet battery operated calculators do. When first using a solar calculator, press the "On" button to clear any previous entries.
- 3). Before starting any calculation, press the "On" or "Clear" button to delete previous entries.
- 4). Using a calculator for subtraction is different than using an adding machine for the same function. To subtract on a calculator, enter the starting number, press the “-“ key, and then enter the number you want to subtract, and hit the “-“ key again. If you want to subtract additional numbers, repeat.
- 5). To add on a calculator, enter the starting number, press the “+“ key, and then enter the number you want to add, and hit the “+“ key again. If you want to add additional numbers, repeat.
- 6). To multiply two numbers on a calculator, enter the starting number, press “X” or “* “, enter the next number, and press “=”.
- 7). To divide two numbers on a calculator, enter the number you want divided, press the “/ “ or “÷” key, enter the number you want the first number divided by, and press “=”.
