Robocall refers to automated phone calls which utilize an autodialer and pre-recorded message. It is called as such because the telephone calls seem to be coming from a robot. It is usually associated with political campaigning of both the Republican and Democratic parties, though it is sometimes used to render public service or for emergency announcements.

There are organizations in which the utilization of robocalls is restricted, if not prohibited. But as far as political Automated Calls are concerned, they are exempt from the Federal Communications Commission regulation prohibiting telemarketers from using autodialers to call cell phone holders. Thus, the use of this kind of facility to promote political candidates is still allowed. However, regulation varies from one state to another because laws created delineation between political robocalls and political telemarketing.

There are reported instances that this autodialer is being used for deceptive campaigning. Customers felt being harassed from unwanted phone calls because this facility is being used to promote telemarketing scheme which led people to believe that their vehicle's warranty already expired. Consumers were subjected to unwanted robocalls in their home and work several times a day. Even government officials and employees have the same experience with automated calls. To address this problem and to serve the legitimate purpose of prerecorded telemarketing, the Federal Communications Commission imposed a regulation. Telemarketers have to secure permission first from consumers who want to receive these types of calls.

This kind of political telemarketing is often resorted to by political aspirants because they believe that they are given the right edge. It is imperative upon political candidates to acquire at least one robocall. In fact, automated calls have become a necessary part of political campaign as it gives them twin advantage that is, reaching more people for extremely cheap price.

Compared to the conventional method of mailing flyers, which is too expensive, automated calls are not costly. The rate imposed by robocalling companies varies but the usual rate is only $0.50 per number for a four-minute long message. And in just one hour, companies can make hundreds of thousands of phone calls.

Another advantage of automated calls is that they are easily tracked. More often than not, people do not have the patience and time to read flyers. The information which political candidates want to convey does not reach the people effectively. Ordinarily, people will accept flyers and after seeing the political candidate's face, these flyers go directly to the trash without even reading a single word. Money spent for nothing.

Robocalling companies are equipped with technology which enables it to track the number of recipient who listens to the phone calls. And if they are able to get influential personality to record a message, recipients will likely to listen than hang up. In this way alone, political candidate will be able to know how many people are interested to him.

Robocalls have become an essential tool to help get political aspirants get elected. Although typical campaigning still works, no one can deny the fact that automated calls effectively reach more people. Since people nowadays are savvy to technology, it is practicable to use this kind of technology to make your name prominent.
